Dear [Supervisor’s name],

I would like to attend the National Association of the Deaf (NAD) Government Employee Training (GET 2013) that will take place in Omaha, Nebraska on October 3-5, 2013.

I believe that attending this training will benefit both [Government Agency] and me because what I learn at this training will enable me to become a more productive worker and a more valuable asset to [Government Agency].

GET  is specifically tailored for deaf and hard of hearing government employees who wish to enhance leadership skills for the workplace and for community involvement. All training sessions will be conducted entirely in American Sign Language and thus will be directly accessible to me as I learn how to be more productive for [Government Agency].

The training program is geared to individuals seeking to improve their skills for workplace advancement and community engagement as well as civic involvement. Plenary presentations and breakout session topics will include promoting diversity and sharing of diverse viewpoints, being a change agent, staying on top of leadership trends, mentoring up and coming leaders, mastering effective communication, serving on boards, exercising fiduciary responsibility, and honing effective use of blogs and social media.

This is a rare opportunity for my professional development in a fully accessible format, so I respectfully request that you approve my attendance. NAD Government Employee Training provides enormous value for the money because the registration fee is only [Current Government Registration Rate]  for NAD members and includes one reception and two luncheons. Additional costs will be round trip airfare of $[cost of airfare], hotel lodging expenses of $ ($99/single & double, plus tax; $109/triple, plus tax; and $119/quad, plus tax), ground transportation to/from both my home airport and the Eppley Airfield/Omaha airport, and meals that are not covered by registration.

The cost of the conference is minimal compared to the benefits that I expect to acquire as an employee for [Government Agency  name], and I hope you will support my attendance.

Sincerely,
[Your name]
