Silver Spring, MD - The National Association of the Deaf (NAD) seeks a dynamic, energetic and creative person to become part of its Youth Programs team. The youth programs assistant will assist with coordinating youth related programming at the NAD. The assistant should have a passion for deaf youth of America.
Key duties include:
- Assist in development, planning, and implementation of NAD youth programs;
- Build community partnerships that will benefit the NAD and deaf youth;
- Research trends, demographics and needs of youth to evaluate current programs and plan strategically for the future;
- Maintain youth database and web pages;
- Develop marketing materials about NAD youth programs;
- Write grants and seek donations/sponsorships for youth programs and related events;
- Increase membership and participation within NAD youth programs; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Position requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts field; Master’s degree in related field preferred;
- Equivalent of two years’ relevant management and leadership experience (cooperative or internship experience may be included) working with deaf youth;
- Willingness to work some non-traditional hours and weekends as required;
- Ability to travel throughout the year for youth-related events/programs;
- Ability to multi-task and to handle competing priorities and demands;
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively both within and outside of the Association;
- Excellent communication (verbal and written), teamwork, and organizational skills;
- Computer and internet literacy;
- Familiarity with deaf youth leadership including knowledge of the theories, principles and practices common to the field of youth development;
- Fluency in American Sign Language with knowledge of deaf culture and heritage.
