The NAD urges you to register to vote and to vote on November 4, 2008.
Voting is your right as a United States citizen.
Before you can vote, you must register to vote.
Every state has a deadline for voter registration.*
Don’t miss your deadline – register to vote now.
Whatever party you affiliate with or none at all, Republicans and Democrats have a lot to gain or lose, and so do you. Remember, the presidential election in 2000 was decided by a few hundred votes.

NAD Tells Presidential Candidates: “Caption your videos!”
Presidential Candidates Forum a Success! On November 2, 2007 the NAD, along with other national and local organizations, cosponsored a presidential candidates’ forum in Manchester, New Hampshire that drew over 600 spectators.
Presidential Election Action Center Includes disability-related questions to candidates and their answers, campaign news, get-out-the-disability-vote initiatives, action alerts, and other items related to the 2008 presidential election.
Disability Vote Alliance [web site not established yet] Works to maximize the voting strength of Americans with disabilities through nonpartisan voter education, registration and mobilization efforts. The NAD is a member of the DVA.
Be a Prepared Voter includes tips on what to do before election day so that you are ready to vote for the candidates and positions you support.

- Register to Vote – the National Mail Voter Registration Act and Form contains a copy of the Voter Registration Form, general instructions, application instructions, specific instructions for each state, and deadlines for voter registration for each State.
Declare Yourself provides access to state voter registration forms and contains information about election dates, absentee ballots, and how to find your voting place.

Identification Required –
If you register to vote by mail and it is the first time you have registered to vote in your jurisdiction (where you live now), you must
send a photocopy of your identification with your voter registration form;
or
take identification with you to the poll the first time you vote in a federal election.
You need to use a current and valid photo identification or a copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck or other government document that shows your name and address.
Tip for ALL voters: Bring identification with you when you go to vote. Some states require all voters to show identification. Having identification with you will make voting easier.
Voting Access for People with Disabilities –
Guidance for Poll Workers on Accessible Voting for Deaf and Hard of Hearing People provides information as to how to ensure that polling places comply with accessibility laws.
American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) Disability VOTE Project addresses the fundamental inequalities faced by this nation's voters with disabilities and works in a nonpartisan manner to ensure they are provided full accessibility to all polling places and voting equipment.
National Association of Protection & Advocacy Systems, Inc. Protection and Advocacy Systems, commonly known as P&As, are federally mandated systems with at least one office in every state and territory. The Help America Vote Act (HAVA) provides a broad mandate to P&As to “ensure the full participation in the electoral process for individuals with disabilities, including registering to vote, casting a vote and accessing polling places.” For a state-by-state list P&A offices, go to: http://www.ndrn.org/aboutus/consumer.htm.
