The National Association of the Deaf (NAD) sent a letter to the 21st International Congress on the Education of the Deaf (21st Congress) requesting that they grant official recognition to the use of sign language as a civil, human and linguistic right, particularly in educational settings.

On Wednesday afternoon, July 7, 2010, the four finalists for the NAD Chief Executive Officer position will give their presentations starting at 4:00 pm Eastern Daylight Time in the Grand Ballroom at the Philadelphia Marriott-Downtown Hotel. Hello again! The Senate recently introduced a version of the H.R. 3101 bill, and the Senate’s bill is called the "Equal Access to 21st Century Communications Act” (S. 3304).

Last Wednesday, May 26, Bobbie Beth Scoggins, President of the National Association of the Deaf (NAD), and Russell Harvard, a deaf actor, testified before the Senate Subcommittee on Communications, Technology and the Internet in support of the Senate bill. 

During a recent visit to the Nation’s Capitol. I discovered that many of our government’s programs are not readily accessible to people who are deaf.  Many programs offered at the U.S.

This framed photograph was taken in 1880, the site of the first NAD conference in Ohio. That was 130 years ago. The 50th Biennial NAD Conference will take place this July in Philadelphia, PA.  One-hundred and thirty years is a long time. During the 1880 conference, the Statue of Liberty didn't even exist!
