We proudly introduce the first vlog of Chris Wagner, the new President of the National Association of the Deaf! Watch President Wagner now, and learn more about his plans for the future of the NAD. President Wagner was just elected at the 51st Biennial NAD Conference in Louisville, Kentucky.
Transcript of the vlog is as follows:
Hi! I'm Chris Wagner, and this is the first of many vlogs I will do as NAD President. The Board will join me in making frequent vlogs to keep you informed on what's happening around the community and within the NAD. All reports that the Board is responsible for sharing will be communicated through vlogs in ASL for you to watch and understand what is happening. The Board is committed to making changes to meet the needs of our members. Now, we're focusing on looking for two appointed Board members to focus on education and youth. If you feel like you have the skill set to get involved and support the Board in education or youth, please send an email to: nad.info@nad.org with your resume before August 15th. The Board would like to fill those positions by the end of August so we can move forward with our agenda.
Currently, the Board has started working on our top priorities and ongoing priorities. One of my first initiatives is to set up an ad-hoc committee on NAD membership development for elections reform. The primary goal is to ensure that members' voices are recognized in the process. We will also implement several working committees focusing on several critical areas, including, but not limited to education, EHDI, language deprivation, employment taskforce, recommendations by the NAD Civil Rights Committee, mental health, legislative training and support for state associations and affiliates.
Next, we will host our first Board meeting in the Bay Area in California on October 11-13 with our first Town Hall meeting hosted there. More information will come soon, within the next few weeks. I hope you can join us there. I want to close by sharing with you my conversation with Sheri Farinha. We are committed to working together as a community. We must listen, learn and respect each other. Remember, "Nothing Without Us, Without Us." Thank you.
Join us in welcoming President Wagner aboard- we look forward to his leadership as the NAD enters a new era, with several new priorities and continuing commitments.
