NAD Youth Leadership Camp Moves to New Site for 2003

The National Association of the Deaf (NAD) announced a new location for the Youth Leadership Camp (YLC) for the 2003 session, July 22-August 12. Formerly held in Stayton, Oregon at Camp Taloali, this summer's program will be held at Camp Lakodia in South Dakota.

The NAD Youth Leadership Camp (YLC) encourages outstanding young student leaders in grades 9 through 11 from diverse educational programs to develop a greater purpose in life through programs of learning, social interaction, and leadership development. The program is carefully designed to aid promising young students in developing their citizenship, scholarship and leadership abilities and to become self-starters in their respective schools and communities. Camp participants discover who they are, what they can do, and the role they play in helping their schools build stronger relationships with their respective communities, and to become contributing citizens of this American society.

"I am thrilled that the new site, with its more central location, will provide an opportunity for more balanced representation of campers from across the country," said Jennifer Yost, NAD Youth Programs Coordinator. "Our past 12 summers at Camp Taloali, have been wonderful and I wish to express our thanks to their board and staff for making us feel so welcome all these years," she continued.

The YLC is operated and managed by the National Association of the Deaf. The NAD will rent the Camp Lakodia property, owned by CSD, for the 2003 YLC session. Camp Lakodia is situated on Lake Herman near Madison, South Dakota.
