Senate Delays Introduction of Bill to Amend the IDEA
According to U.S Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, & Pensions staff the long anticipated Senate bill to amend the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) will be released shortly before the Memorial Day weekend. Originally slated for release on April 30th, 2003, the exact release date will appear in the Committee schedule for the month of May. The Committee website is located at:

The National Association of the Deaf (NAD) will examine this legislation closely and is collaborating with other disability organizations and agencies, including the Sensory Disabilities Roundtable, a coalition of deaf, blind, and deaf-blind groups who comprise a large segment of the low-incidence disability population. NAD members and friends will be notified immediately when the bill is introduced, to ensure that our voices are heard on the critically important legislation. The NAD views on the IDEA are provided in a White Paper.
