NAD Urges Support for Community Choice Act
The NAD, with other organizations, sent a letter to Secretary Kathleen Sebelius of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, urging her support of the Community Choice Act (CCA, S. 683/H.R.1670) with a request for a meeting.
If passed, the CCA would require state Medicaid plan coverage of community-based attendant services and supports for Medicaid-eligible individuals. This would allow individuals with certain disabilities to stay in their homes and receive long-term services and supports, rather than moving to an institution, such as a nursing home. The CCA would provide a safety net for people with the most significant disabilities.
Ultimately, the CCA would bring federal policy in line with the Supreme Court's decision
in the case of Olmstead v. L.C., giving every American with a disability the right to live in the most integrated setting.
