NAD Defends Integrity of New York City “47” Schools

On April 7, President Bobbie Beth Scoggins sent a letter to Dorothy Cohler, Secretary of the “47” Alumni Association of the Deaf indicating that the NAD stands by its state affiliate, Empire State Association of the Deaf (ESAD) in their decision to preserve the integrity of “47,” the American Sign Language and English Lower and Secondary Schools (PS347 and M047, respectively). The following day, Sean Gerlis as NAD Board Region I Representative testified at a hearing, followed by ESAD President Dave Staehle at a second hearing the following week.
