Marlee Matlin, Academy Award winning actress, author, and spokesperson for the National Association of the Deaf (NAD) for accessible broadband services and Internet media, rocked for access on Capitol Hill last week and testified at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) field hearing on the National Broadband Plan.

Relay Consumer Alert: 800 Numbers No Longer Interoperable

The NAD has learned that a major Video Relay Service (VRS) provider removed all toll-free 800 numbers from the relay service number database to comply with a recent Public Notice issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). As a result of the FCC decision, people who use videophones provided by VRS providers cannot call other people whose 800 numbers/videophones are supported by this major VRS provider.

USADSF President Fleischer Passes Away

The National Association of the Deaf (NAD) mourns the sudden loss of Lawrence R. Fleischer, president of the USA Deaf Sports Federation (USADSF), who had a heart attack on Sunday evening, November 1 at Burbank, CA. He was on his way home after delivering the closing keynote at the American Sign Language Teachers Association (ASLTA) conference in Phoenix, AZ.

NAD Past President Hurwitz Selected as 10th Gallaudet President

The Board of Directors of the National Association of the Deaf (NAD) extends enthusiastic congratulations to T. Alan Hurwitz on his selection as the tenth president of Gallaudet University.  Hurwitz is the first past president of the NAD to serve in this prestigious academic leadership role.  Currently he serves as president of the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID), one of eight colleges within the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), and vice president and dean of RIT.
