The National Association of the Deaf (NAD), as part of the National Video Relay Services Coalition (NVRSC), filed comments with the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) insisting on speed of answer rules for Video Relay Services (VRS).
The NAD argued that 85% of all VRS calls be answered by the VRS call center within 10 seconds. VRS providers either wanted more time—starting at three times as long (30 seconds) or no rule requiring quick answers by the call centers.

The National Association of the Deaf (NAD) is seeking deaf consumers and deaf interpreters to serve as raters for the NAD-RID National Interpreter Certification (NAD-RID NIC) test, which will be launched in entirety this year.
Raters will be selected based on criteria provided by the psychometricians involved with the new test. The application deadline for those interested in becoming raters is March 1, 2005.

Andrew Lange, president of the National Association of the Deaf (NAD), announced the establishment of an ad hoc committee on National Deaf History Month. The purpose of this committee is to have the president of the United States proclaim Deaf History Month to be observed annually from March 13 to April 15.

Lange, president of the National Association of the Deaf, announced the establishment of the NAD Technology Committee (NAD TC) that will monitor federal, state, and local telecommunications and technology issues of importance to deaf and hard of hearing Americans and respond as the need arises. The new NAD Technology Committee replaces the NAD Telecommunications Advocacy Network (TAN) established by the NAD in 1997.
