The U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee will be holding a hearing on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) on Thursday, July 12, at 9:00 a.m. in the Dirksen Senate Office Building, Room G-50. This is an important treaty for our community and we need members of our community to write to their Senators urging them to ratify the CRPD.
The NAD Leads the Way for Accessible Closed Captioning Controls
On June 4, 2012, the National Association of the Deaf (NAD) led a number of organizations and consumer groups in submitting comments in response to a Public Notice issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on the accessibility of closed captioning controls on devices and equipment.

Governor Daugaard Unable to Attend NAD Conference
The National Association for the Deaf (NAD) announces that South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard will be unable to attend the 51st Biennial NAD Conference on July 3 - 7, 2012 in Louisville, Kentucky.
NAD Urges U.S. Senate to Ratify the CRPD
On July 29, 2009, President Barack Obama signed the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). At the present time, 153 countries have signed this international treaty recognizing the civil and human rights of people with disabilities. However, only 112 of these countries have taken the necessary step of ratification, which makes a country's participation official in the treaty.
