The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Alliance; a Coalition of Consumers and Professional Organizations (DHHA) respectfully requests the Commission to include financial parity for elite deaf and hard of hearing athletes in the Deaflympic Games when it considers recommendations on the organization and structure of the United States Olympic Committee.

NAD Responds To Barden Case

The National Association of the Deaf (NAD) sent a letter along with other disability organizations to Mr. Theodore Olson, U.S. Solicitor General and Mr. Paul Clement, Principal Deputy Solicitor General in response to the U.S. Supreme Court case, Barden et al. v. City of Sacramento, et. al.The United States Supreme Court requested the opinion of the Solicitor General in the Barden case.

NAD Grades the IDEA Bill

The Committee on Education and the Workforce, U. S. House of Representatives, is scheduled to mark up (review and likely approve) a bill to amend and extend the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act on Wednesday, April 9. The NAD has reviewed the bill as approved by a subcommittee on April 2. Because the IDEA is so important, the NAD is concerned that adhering to such a very fast timeline will greatly limit the ability of deaf and hard of hearing individuals, professionals, and parents to participate in this important legislative process.

NAD Youth Leadership Camp Moves to New Site for 2003

The National Association of the Deaf (NAD) announced a new location for the Youth Leadership Camp (YLC) for the 2003 session, July 22-August 12. Formerly held in Stayton, Oregon at Camp Taloali, this summer's program will be held at Camp Lakodia in South Dakota.

The NAD Argues in Landmark ADA and Internet Case

The case focuses on access to information and services provided through the Internet.

The NAD Argues In Section 504 Case

In 1996, the Movie Access Coalition, a predecessor of the Coalition for Movie Captioning, developed a White Paper on the need for vastly increased captioning of first-run movies in theaters.

The White Paper included a proposed schedule to make all movies available with captions within three years.
