The Junior NAD Flash Memo is a monthly update on Jr. NAD chapter activities including community service projects, fundraisers, social events, and advocacy activities. Jr. NAD members and their chapter advisers organize and host events and fundraisers, connect local concerns with national issues, and coordinate important projects related to ADA accessibility, leadership development, and social media.
New York School for the Deaf discussed and finalized plans to host a tri-school Valentine’s Day Dance on February 17th, inviting Lexington School for the Deaf and Blind Brooks (a local deaf program). Also, NYSD Jr. NAD members and SBG officers discussed about selling calendars next month.
Arizona School for the Deaf and Blind participated in a community project, Ben’s Bells, supporting the wounded in the recent Tucson tragedy.
Illinois School for the Deaf has formed committees to begin preparations for the annual Mardi Gras celebration. Also, we are selling Silly Bandz bracelets to raise funds to send our delegates to the 2011 Junior NAD Conference in Riverside, California.
South Carolina School for the Deaf hosted a boys’ Mason Dixon Basketball Tournament during the last weekend of January. In addition, we accomplished two fundraising projects – selling rubber wristbands (raised over 120 dollars in three days) and coordinating half-court throws (an activity that one attempts to shoot a ball into the basket) and we raised $200. Proceeds from the two projects will cover the expenses to send our delegates to the Conference in Riverside.
Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf discussed and finalized plans to host a Fellowship event on February 17th. The event is open to any deaf and hard of hearing students, grades 9 – 12.
