The Order of Georges and Georgettes breakfast will be held on July 3, 2012 - 7:00 AM TO 8:15 AM in the Hyatt Regency Ballroom. Wake up to a great filling breakfast and energizing program with speaker Roz Rosen and emcee, the affable Mervin Garretson!

Vote with other members to choose a delegate to represent loyal NAD members on the Council of Representatives.

Roz Rosen
Presenter
Dr. Roz Rosen is the Director of the National Center on Deafness at the California State University, Northridge. Her career previous to this included 33 years at Gallaudet University, as a professor, director of the Special Schools of the Future project, dean of continuing education and vice president for academic affairs.

Her volunteer community service included board membership of the National Association of the Deaf, including three years as president, the Conference of Educational Administrators of Programs and Schools Serving Deaf Students, and the World Federation of the Deaf. She also wears the hats of wife, mother and grandmother.

Mervin Garretson
Emcee
Born into a northern Wyoming cattle ranching family, July 25, 1923, Merv Garretson became deaf from spinal meningitis at five years old. He attended the Colorado School for the Deaf and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Gallaudet University, a master’s from the University of Wyoming. Merv did his doctoral studies at the University of Maryland. He was awarded honorary doctoral degrees from the Rochester Institute of Technology and Gallaudet University.

In his long career, Merv taught at Maryland and Montana schools. He served as a principal at Montana School for the Deaf for 12 years. Merv was an associate professor at the Graduate School of Education at Gallaudet University; and served as the first principal of the Model Secondary School for the Deaf at Gallaudet.

In his spare time, Merv served on the NAD Board of Directors that included terms of president-elect, president and past president and later on, vice president. He also sat on several Board of Directors across the world, including the World Federation of the Deaf, including being the international president of the WFD Commission on Pedagogy for 20 years. Upon retirement in Tokyo, he was elected as a lifetime member of the Board.

Merv has authored two books, Words from a Deaf Child and My Yesterdays and he edited seven issues of NAD annual monographs. He is married to Carol Kaull for 57 years and is a father to five daughters and a grandfather of seven.
