Launched on October 25, Sound and Fury Online serves as the companion Web site to the critically acclaimed documentary documentary film about cochlear implants and one family's choice. The film Sound and Fury was released in theaters nationwide beginning October 25, and will be shown on PBS in 2001.

The Web site was created by WNET, the PBS affiliate station in New York. Designed to supplement the film, the site includes a "debate" about cochlear implants between Nancy J. Bloch, NAD Executive Director, and her counterpart at the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf, Donna Sorkin. This debate is a series of questions, responses, and counter-responses. WNET site producer Elizabeth Owen emailed a list of questions to both executive directors. Once she received the answers, she sent them on to the other asking for rebuttals to the answers. This process created a dialogue that not only addressed identical questions, but allowed each respondent to build on the other¯s remarks. In addition, an NAD volunteer went through the photo archives, and was able to send WNET many of the photos they requested to illustrate the site.
Also on the site, visitors will find:
* an animated lesson in American Sign Language that lets users take part in a signed dialogue;
* an animated illustration of how a cochlear implant works;
* a series of interviews with deaf people about what defines deaf culture;
* a timeline of the history of deaf culture;
* a collection of video clips from the program;
* an extensive index of online resources for more information on deafness and cochlear implants.
