The National Association of the Deaf (NAD) appeared at the Deaf Expo 2003 in Philadelphia, PA May 29-30, 2003 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Visitors at the new "eye" catching NAD display learned about the NAD efforts to protect the civil rights and improve the quality of life of all deaf and hard of hearing Americans.
Nancy B. Rarus, NAD Associate Executive Director; Shane Feldman, NAD Editor; and Jennifer Yost, NAD Youth Programs Coordinator manned the booth and gave short presentations during workshops on Friday and Saturday at the Deaf Expo. They answered questions about the NAD and explained how the NAD is defending deaf and hard of hearing civil rights.
More than 40 people joined as National NAD members at the booth. These new and renewing members were automatically entered into a prize drawing. First prize is the "Hand in Hand - We Make a Difference" denim shirt. Second prize is a copy of the book, "Legal Rights: The Guide for Deaf and Hard of Hearing People." Third prize is the "Hand in Hand - We Make a Difference" denim cap. The drawing for the winners took place at NAD Headquarters and the winners are:
1. Katy Walker of Ambler, PA
2. Staci Rensch of Hatfield, PA
3. Patrick Kilgallon of Plymouth Meeting, PA
The NAD thanks Verizon for its generous contribution towards the new “eye” traveling exhibit and display. Visit the brand new NAD booth at selected events throughout the country. Check the NAD website to find out where the traveling exhibit booth will appear next!
