NAD Supports Forum on Disability Issues for U.S President Campaign

The National Association of the Deaf (NAD) is a sponsor of the second National Forum on Disability Issues, a nonpartisan event focused on identifying and discussing the disability positions of the Barack Obama and Mitt Romney Presidential Campaigns, set to take place at 11:30 pm EST on Sep. 28th, in Columbus, Ohio.

During the Forum, Edward M. “Ted” Kennedy, Jr. and Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) will discuss their positions on behalf of their parties on a variety of issues impacting people with disabilities. Hosted and organized by members of the disability community, the Forum also invites other political candidates, including those running for the Senate seat in Ohio, to talk about how best to address important issues facing Americans with disabilities. Frank Sesno, director of the School of Media and Public Affairs at the George Washington University and former CNN White House correspondent, anchor and Washington bureau chief, will serve as Forum moderator.

"The National Forum on Disability Issues is the only national event that addresses, on a political level, challenges that people with disabilities face," said Chris Wagner, NAD President. "With the sponsorship of the NAD, this Forum will shed light on what our elected officials can do to help deaf and hard of people across the United States succeed in life." 

At the National Forum, deaf and hard of hearing community leaders, including Verne Taylor Jr. who will represent the NAD, will join together with disability advocates to define policies that will change the landscape of the American deaf community.

"Advocating for equal access on a national level is important, and through our sponsorship of the Forum, we have the opportunity to help shape our future by entering into an open dialogue with those who seek to be elected into office."
