Shane Feldman Departs NAD to Lead RID as Executive Director

he National Association of the Deaf (NAD) congratulates Shane H. Feldman for his selection as the new Executive Director of the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID). The NAD greatly benefited from Mr. Feldman’s leadership and contributions in his role as the Chief Operating Officer for the past three years and wishes him great success in his new endeavors at RID.

“Shane has been an extraordinary colleague to work with and he has proven himself to be a staunch advocate for equality and accessibility for deaf and hard of hearing people over the years at the NAD,” said Howard A. Rosenblum, Chief Executive Officer. “He was a driving force behind the fight to have captioning at sports stadiums in the case that bears his name – Feldman v. Redskins, and helping the NAD initiate the lawsuit against Netflix and advocate for Commercial Drivers License exemptions for deaf truck drivers. He contributed greatly to Internet Captioning by being part of the effort to pass the 21st Century Video & Communications Accessibility Act and serving on FCC committees that recommended rules that were ultimately implemented. Shane has always striven to uphold the mission of the NAD and put the interests of American Sign Language and the deaf and hard of hearing community above all else. We wish him the best as he takes on the reins at our sister agency, the RID.”

The NAD looks forward to continuing to work closely with the RID as we work together to promote the interpreting profession and ensure that interpreters continue to meet the needs of the deaf and hard of hearing community.

“I am honored to have been a part of a team of dedicated staff members and volunteers. Together, we brought the NAD to a new level of operations and advocacy which has put the organization in a far better position than it was three years ago,” said Shane H. Feldman. “It was a privilege to serve under NAD CEOs Nancy J. Bloch and Howard A. Rosenblum. Their unwavering commitment to equal access and equality inspired me to become a better advocate and leader. It was my pleasure, as their COOs, to assist in streamlining the organization to help them achieve their goals. The NAD is in great hands with the staff, contractors, and volunteers. I will always be a member and urge the community to join the NAD to supports its great advocacy work.”
