ENGLISH TRANSCRIPT: Hi! I’m Melissa with a video update for this month, January 2021. I’d like to share some updates since October, which is when we had our business meeting, called the Council of Representatives (COR), and it is made up of delegates representing different organizations. During this COR, the delegates voted on the top five priorities for the NAD to focus on for the next two years, 2020-2022. Delegates also voted on resolutions, bylaws, and elected new Board members. When the COR concluded, we needed to fill five vacant Board positions. I’ll explain what those positions were and who was appointed in each position. The first vacancy was Region IV Representative — previously was held by Amy Gomme who is now the NAD Vice President. The position had two more years left in its term. We appointed Laura Kim from California to be our new Region IV Representative! The next two vacancies were the two appointed Board members — in this term they will focus on one of the new priorities, Dismantling Racism in the Deaf Community. We appointed Kirsten Poston and Stephanie Hakulin. And finally, the last two vacancies were newly created, Affiliate Representatives. The delegates voted to create these two positions during COR. We appointed Justin Cha from Deaf in Government (DIG) and Tyese Wright from National Black Deaf Advocates (NBDA). We’re excited to welcome these five new Board members, making a total of 16 Board members now. We’re ready to work. We had a virtual retreat last December where we had the opportunity to get to know each other as well as understand our roles and responsibilities as NAD Board members. Later, in January 2021, we had our first virtual Board meeting where we discussed a variety of topics. We had an opportunity to meet the NAD staff and understand a bit more about what they do and on what they’re working. We also discussed the five priorities, figuring out the timeline for each priority, and have started efforts for each. Another topic we discussed was the NAD Leadership Training Conference (NLTC) that is scheduled to take place this September [23-25]. We discussed the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and reminded ourselves that our priority is our safety. As a result, we decided to switch to hosting NLTC virtually. Me gustaría compartir algunas actualizaciones desde octubre, que es cuando tuvimos nuestra reunión de negocios, llamada el Consejo de Representantes (COR), compuesta por delegados en representación de diferentes organizaciones. Durante la reunión COR, los delegados votaron sobre las cinco prioridades principales en las que debe centrarse la NAD durante los próximos dos años, 2020-2022. Los delegados también votaron sobre las resoluciones y estatutos y eligieron nuevos miembros de la Junta. Cuando concluyó la reunión COR, necesitábamos cubrir cinco puestos vacantes en la Junta.
