Workshop Proposal Information

We encourage all workshop proposals to be as complete as possible so that the workshop coordinators can submit these proposals for Continuing Education Units (CEUs). You may have attendees who wish to attend your workshop and need to earn CEUs in order to maintain their certificate, membership, or license. If your workshop does not have CEUs, people may not be able to attend. We will identify which workshops have CEUs on the website, in the conference program book, and in the conference guidebook mobile app. Even if you don’t think your workshop is necessary for CEUs, your workshop may be helpful for those who need CEUs and wish to attend your workshop. Do it for them!

What are Educational Objectives?

An educational objective describes what participants will be able to do during or immediately following your workshop that will demonstrate their comprehension and integration of information presented. It is NOT what participants learn IN your workshop It’s what participants can DO to apply their learning AFTER your workshop.

Objectives must be specific, measurable and observable. For each workshop you are presenting, you will need to list 3-5 specific, MEASURABLE, and observable learning outcomes that participants will be able to produce or replicate or demonstrate as a result of your workshop. It should relate to the content you are presenting.

There are 3 parts to writing an educational objective:
1. State the who (the participants)
2. Use an action verb, which is observable and measureable. (Examples: classify, compare, contrast, construct, describe, demonstrate, explain, identify, list, outline, perform, question, practice, produce.)
3. End with a specific content statement (relates to content in your workshop)

Write each educational objective as such:
As a result of attending this workshop, participants will be able to:

Here are some examples of good learning objectives:

  • Participants will be able to define parts of the Colonomos model in a practical sense as it applies to interpreted texts.
  • Participants will be able to accurately identify at least 8 common medical descriptors of place (prepositions).
  • Participants will be able to recite the protocol for interpreting in a forensic mental institution.

Here are examples of bad objectives what we’ve seen:

  • Learn about…
  • Participants will gain a greater understanding of …
  • Participants will be able to demonstrate videos from the internet
  • To provide excellent resources and solutions to the deaf participants who will have access to get better concepts on how to run their business without any barriers
  • Participants will be aware of our website and videos

Action Plan

  • Please describe or outline specific activities which will occur DURING your workshop. These activities are to support and help meet the Educational Objectives listed above.
