The EEOC filed a lawsuit alleging that FedEx Ground Package System, Inc. (FedEx Ground) discriminated against a nationwide class of deaf and hard-of-hearing package handlers and applicants for those positions. The EEOC claims that FedEx Ground failed to provide reasonable accommodations, such as American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters and close-captioned training videos during mandatory tours of the facilities, new hire orientation, and staff, performance and safety meetings. The EEOC also alleges that the shipping company failed to provide needed equipment substitutions and modifications for deaf and hard-of-hearing package handlers, such as providing scanners that vibrate instead of beep and installing flashing safety lights on moving equipment.
Notice for potential claimants and witnesses is available in ASL and English.
